How this directory is built

What gets a facility listed, where each detail comes from, and how lists are ordered.

How are facilities ordered?

Every list of facilities on the site is in reverse alphabetical order by facility name, Z to A. That applies to the city list, each district, each unit size and each need. Nothing else moves a facility up or down: not its operator, its size, its features or its prices.

  • Need pages (for example, storage for a move) show two groups, each Z to A: facilities where we've confirmed most of the features that matter for that need, then the facilities we don't yet know enough about.
  • The "Nearby" box on a facility page is ordered by distance, closest first.
  • Search results are ordered by how closely they match what you typed.

Which facilities are included?

A facility is included when it rents self-storage units to the public inside the City of Toronto (Old Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, East York and York) and passes every check below. There are 89 today.

  • It has a street address and its own operator website.
  • Its sources agree on where it is and on its phone number.
  • Its address falls inside one of Toronto's six districts, using the City of Toronto's official boundary files.
  • Its name doesn't suggest a different kind of business or another city.
  • It doesn't share a street address with another listing.
  • We could read its operator's page, or, if not, at least two independent sources list it.

We leave out moving-truck rental, portable container companies, shipping containers and luggage lockers, and any facility that fails a check. A facility that fails stays off the site until someone checks it by hand.

Where does the data come from?

Facilities are found in four places: operators' own location pages, OpenStreetMap, and two public storage directories, wantstorage.ca and findstoragefast.ca. When two records share a phone line or street address, or sit within 50 metres of each other, we merge them into one.

  • Name, address and phone come from the operator's website where we could read it, otherwise from the public directories.
  • Features (drive-up units, climate control, a moving truck and the others we track) come from the operator's website or a public directory. Each one is backed by a quote from the page it came from, and each facility page says which kind of source it was. A feature we couldn't find is shown as "Not confirmed", never assumed.
  • Hours come from the operator's website or a public directory, and the facility page says which.
  • Prices come only from the operator's own website or booking page, read where the site's robots.txt allows it. We publish the standard monthly rate, with any promotion shown beside it. Rates quoted per week or per four-week cycle are converted to a monthly figure. We have rates for 37 of the 89 facilities so far; where we don't, the page says so and links to the operator.
  • City and district price figures are the median of each facility's lowest standard rate for that size, shown only when three or more facilities have a price. We don't estimate prices or fill gaps with averages.

Details are read from those pages by software, which records the quote each value came from. Pages marked "Verified" were also checked by a person against the operator's website; the others say "Details from the operator's website and public listings."

How often is it refreshed?

Listings, features, hours and prices are re-read from their sources in a full refresh. The last full refresh was on October 15, 2026. Prices were last read on October 15, 2026. Rates change often, so confirm with the facility before you rent.

What counts for each need?

Need pages show which of these features each facility offers. The criteria were set before we looked at any results and are the same for every facility:

  • Storage for your move: free truck or van on site, drive-up units, loading dock, same-day move-in, book online.
  • Seasonal and winter storage: vehicle, rv or boat parking, climate-controlled units, 24/7 access, drive-up units.
  • Storage with 24/7 access and security: 24/7 access, video surveillance, drive-up units, freight elevator.
  • Business storage: business storage and deliveries, loading dock, 24/7 access, freight elevator.
  • Renting storage for the first time: book online, same-day move-in, climate-controlled units.

How do operators correct a listing?

The correction form isn't open yet. When it opens, it will be on the operator page, and we'll confirm each request with the operator before changing anything.
